Getting to know... She Runs Chelmsford and Southend
With every order, we donate 5% to one of three projects in women's sport.
We've recently started working with three new organisations, one of which is the great initiative She Runs Chelmsford and Southend; keen runners and part of the fantastic #thisgirlcan campaign.
This week, we sat down with Hayley Pegg, a This Girl Can Essex Ambassador who leads the She Runs Chelmsford & She Runs Southend project, to find out more...
What is the purpose of the She Runs groups?
She Runs is a ladies-only project that helps get women into running in a comfortable and safe environment, and welcomes women of all ages, abilities or experience. All the women pledge to be active, and will receive a free pair of trainers upon joining the group (donated by other ladies in the group who have been members for a longer period of time). The ladies are encouraged to share their tips for progress in running, and to build relationships and friendships whilst improving their overall fitness. The coaches are all qualified running coaches, and are required to undertake a Mental Health First Aid training course so that our group members can feel at ease talking about any issues or barriers that they might be facing.
What are your goals for the project?
We want the women of our group to build a life-long love of running, and to make fitness an important part of their lives. We want each group to be fully-exclusive, with women of all ages, abilities and experiences welcomed to take part. We would also like all members to take part in Mental Health First Aid Courses so that they can help support others who might be facing difficulty.
Do you have a motivational quote that you like to use?
We like to say ‘Strive for progress, not perfection’!
What has the greatest success of the project been so far?
One of the greatest (and certainly most heart-warming) successes has been receiving 100 pairs of trainers from women who want to help other women to be active. We have also helped women go from suffering agoraphobia and feeling anxious in certain situations, to becoming regular members and enjoying running.
What will the Boudavida donation go towards?
All donations received will go towards funding Mental Health First Aid training courses for our coaches and group members.
